If you decided to make a weekend of it, Greater Manchester has plenty to do. Below are some recommendations of things we've done or places that have been recommended to us but we haven't tried yet.
If you're looking for something to do close to our venue, well you can't get any closer than our venue, the East Lancashire Railway, which is running services from Wednesday through to Sunday. Also located at Bury Bolton Street Station is The Trackside pub serving pub grub & a selection of guest beers. Across the street from the station is Bury Transport Museum, part of the East Lancashire Railway, displaying many vintage vehicles.
A short walk from our venue is The Fusilier Museum, which is home to the collections of the XX Lancashire Fusiliers and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
A short drive or even one stop up the line is Burrs Country Park, home to part of the Irwell Sculpture Trail. If you need to cool down whilst you're there, why not pop down the road to the Jersey Girls Dairy Ice Cream hut.
Satisfy your sweet tooth with a trip to patissier & chocolatier, Slattery in Whitefield, who made our wedding cake! Just visit the shop or their dining room and take on their Chocolate Challenge, booking is recommended.
Visit the largest park in the North West, Heaton Park, home of Heaton Park Tramway museum & heritage tram rides, as well as the Grade I-listed Heaton Hall. Heaton Park also contains plenty of activities from golf to rowing on the boating lake & it's own animal centre where you can see a variety of different animals including peacocks.
At the heart of Greater Manchester, Manchester city centre offers so much. Shopaholics are well catered for, from the Arndale shopping centre & Market Street, to the high end stores of New Cathedral Street & Deansgate, to the independent stores of the Northern Quarter & the famous Afflecks, home to 60 independent traders.
For those looking for more cultural or educational offerings Manchester has many museums & galleries including the Science & Industry Museum, National Football Museum, Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Museum & the People's History Museum.
When you start to feel hungry you are spoilt for choice, with many names you'll recognise located in the Printworks & Corn Exchange. If you are looking for pizza we'd recommend Crazy Pedro's, with locations in the Northern Quarter & near the Spinningfields area of the city centre, they offer an interesting selection of toppings. The Northern Quarter & Ancoats are full of independent restaurants, here are some recommendations, including Manchester's only Michelin Star restaurant, Mana. In the Castlefield area are Albert's Shed & Dukes 92 who both do good quality food at reasonable prices. Spinningfields is home to a number of high end restaurants including Hawksmoor, The Ivy & Dishoom. If you are after a coffee on a weekday, we recommend Atrium Coffee in One St Peter's Square.
If you are looking for something a bit more active you can play mini golf at Junkyard Golf, Treetop Golf in the Printworks or at Putters in the Arndale's Urban Playground. Alongside putters in the Urban Playground is The Cube live experience. Also located in the Arndale is the Immersive Gamebox, an interactive digital game room. The appropriately named Roxy Ballroom, over the two Manchester sites, on Deansgate & in the Arndale, offer a variety of games for over 18's, including Ice-Free Curling, Crazy Pool, Beer Pong and pool to name a few. If you're into swinging there are the baseball batting cages of Base Bar or the cricket nets of Sixes. You can also try axe throwing at Whistle Punks at the Great Northern Warehouse.
Wander around the old docks of Salford Quays, now home to Media City. With many well known restaurants located by the studios as well as in the Quayside shopping outlet, you are not short of options for food.
Book yourself on to a tour of the Coronation Street studios & see where the hit soap is filmed. Why not visit the Imperial War Museum North covering experiences of wars past & present. If you wish to visit the home of a team who haven't won a league title in the last 10 seasons then why not book a tour of Old Trafford football ground. You can see some of the great works of art produced by local artist L.S. Lowry at the Lowry Exhibtion.
If you wish to get on or in the water visit Salford Watersports Centre or if you prefer to stay dry catch a river cruise with Manchester Sightseeing Tours or Manchester River Cruises.
Based around The Trafford Centre & Trafford Palazzo there's plenty to do in this area, not just shopping. Trafford Palazzo is home to Sea Life Manchester & Legoland Discovery Centre, email info@fosterprimewedding.co.uk about entry for these attractions. The UK's first Nerf Action Xperience is located in Trafford Palazzo underneath King Pins bowling & games centre. Around the corner from The Trafford Centre is the Trafford Golf Centre, home to a driving range as well as Dino Falls Adventure Golf. Towering over Dino Falls is Beyond containing Chill Factore indoor snow slope & Play Factore kids play area.
